Just a quick message about the BFL, our week long LAN in week 10, starting on Monday morning.

There is one place remaining, so if you haven’t signed up already, be quick!
(If signups fill up, and you REALLY want to go, try e-mailing the exec, although I can’t promise anything.)

For those of you already signed up, standard pre-LAN procedure is advised, updating games etc.
The steam summer sale is on, so you might want to look at picking up some stuff from there.

IMPORTANT: Please note that, as in previous LANs, it is ONE monitor per person. Nobody likes the power cutting out mid-LAN, and if you’ve checked the seating pattern, you’ll see space is also a factor.

Some important announcements this week, LAN sign-ups are open for both
the week 5 LAN and the BFL. Make sure to sign-up early to avoid
disappointment.(Maybe not so much for the week 5 Exam-LAN.)

The Week 5 LAN will also have the speed programming competition, more
details on this soon.
For those of you who want to buy more pizza than you can eat in one
sitting, there is a 'beast pizza’ order for the week 5 LAN as well.

Hello CompSoc!

We’ve got the usual stuff this week, the pub social in the Phantom Coach on Monday to Gaming on Friday.

A note to those who were at gaming last Friday:
-There is some lost property from gaming, a hat/gloves/scarf combo and some notebooks with mathematics notes in, get in touch with Agaeki if any of this is yours.
-Also, the room was left quite a mess after gaming, food trodden into the carpet etc. If you’re going to have food at gaming, PLEASE ensure you take it with you or throw it away when you’re finished.
We don’t want to ban our members from eating at gaming, but we’ll have to if people continue to not clean up after themselves.

Since the new exec are getting used to pretending to know what’s going on, I thought it was about time for some spam e-mail.

This week is of course the Real Ale Festival, that a lot of people have been really looking forward to, which is on in the evening on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Hello Compsoc!

After a lengthy discussion at Friday’s exec meeting, we have decided
that we will no longer be advertising food as part of the pre-gaming
social. You can order food if you want, but please be aware that even
if the dirty duck is full, we won’t be moving over to Rootes Social
building or the like. If you liked food at the social and think this was the
wrong decision to make, or if you have any other ways you think that
the society could be improved, you should come along to the exec
meeting next Monday and have your say on how the society is run!
Note that there is no Exec meeting this week.

There are also a lot of Warwick Game Design events running this week,
including a workshop followed by a console social on Wednesday. Please
check the events page of our website for up to date information about
what’s going on this week.

There is also a talk on Wednesday about how to get the most from your
shell account. Every member is entitled to a free shell account, which
can be used for IRC, website hosting and lots of other interesting tricks.
If you want to come along to the first academic talk of the year (which I
really recommend you do) you should ask for a shell account at

Hello CompSoc!

First of all, a big welcome to all the new freshers! I hope that
you’ve had an action packed first week, without too many hangovers!
Hopefully you turned up to gaming yesterday, but if not then have no
fear, as it runs every Friday.

There will be a freshers social this Monday, which you should come
along to and meet the exec, after which those that are interested will
be able to walk to the pub with us to have a bite to eat, chat to
current members, and possibly have a pint.

We will be heading over to Alton Towers to celebrate Halloween, and
there are still a few spaces left. We will be providing transport to
and from campus via coach. Including the tickets to get in we have got
a price estimate of £20-£30. Once we have confirmed the numbers we can
confirm the pricing, so please sign up as soon as possible. Signups
close Sunday 18th October. Considering Alton Towers is £37 for a

Welcome to Warwick and to what is the first compsoc newsletter, going out
in week 3, easily demonstrating the ruthless effienciency of your beloved
exec.

We’d like to welcome in particular the new freshers who have joined our
ranks and encourage you guys to take part in as many of our activities as
possible be they gaming, academic or just plain socials.

Probably the most important event for this week is the fresher’s social
which is going to be happening from 3:30-6:00 this Saturday in SO.28. Just
drop in whenever you feel like to meet the exec, have some snackies and
see what goes on in the bowels of Compsoc whether it be gaming or
academically focused. Hopefully we won’t scare you too much.
