Minutes

Barcraft postmortem

-General consensus is that people only really want to watch the finals of the event at Barcraft.
-While the event at the Phantom Coach was successful, it is an inappropriate location for future events. This was due to a number of reasons such as the lack of internet connection and no separate room being available.
-The unfortunate room clash with the poker players was due to a double booking by the Phantom Coach staff, and was not an issue on our end.
-The majority of new people were attracted to the event by posters. Print more posters!
-Unclear when the next Barcraft will be; the next major event, IEM Hanover, clashes with LAN.

Super Smash Brothers Melee tournament at LAN

-The time and date for the tournament was decided as 6pm on Saturday.
-Ruth will buy the prizes and an additional Gamecube and a VGA splitter will also be purchased.

Starcraft tournament in term 3

-Enough interest was shown through emails for a tournament to be held.
-Groups into an elimination bracket was decided on, with the semi and finals at BFL.
-Prizes will be purchased nearer the time, clothing was a popular suggestion but sizes are obviously a problem. Ruth suggested just buying them in Adblax’s size.
-Unfortunately, sound proof booths will not be constructed for the finals.

Backus hardware updates and goggins replacement

-A new network card will be bought to hopefully fix Backus, or at least help diagnose the problem further.
-All services from goggins will be moved over to Estridge on Wednesday or Thursday morning at the latest.

XING

-Disappointing turnout last week. The idea of talks was popular, but there are large issues fitting in anything before term ends.
-In future the departmental lectures could advertise the event to improve its popularity.

Gaming keys

-One of the existing sets of keys doesn’t work and new keys will be cut by Mike.

Weekly Steam gaming session

-A weekly gaming session will be trialled. The first game will be Killing Floor on a Thursday night.

Other issues

-Dijkstra was left out, this was simply a organizational error and better communication is needed in future.
-Ops will be restored to the new exec.

Last minute Barcraft.

-A last minute Barcraft for ASUS ROG has been organized at the Phantom Coach: http://uwcs.co.uk/events/details/1400/
-Other events such as MLG were considered as well, but were discounted due to various scheduling and time zone problems.
-Varsity and the Duck were unavailable on such short notice.

XING

-XING has been resurrected and will take place this Friday.

Gaming

-The consoles for gaming have been ordered.
-We are currently waiting on more emails to decide on the future of the proposed Starcraft tournament.

Handover meal

-Cosmo has been booked and the deposit paid.
-zed0 will need to be repaid personally, or alternatively it was suggested that everyone should just pay him back in drink form.

Compsoc constitution

-The legendary Compsoc constitution has been found and it was passed around in all its photocopied glory for all to witness.

Sci-fi society room request

-Permission has been granted for sci-fi society to use Lib1 on Wednesday of BFL from approximately 2-7pm.
-Popular suggestions included “stamping biscuits in the floor” and “removing all tables and chairs” before giving them the room. However, these were ultimately rejected.
-The state of the room will be checked afterwards to ensure we are not blame for any possible misconduct.

Progcomps

-Prizes and suggestions for the competitions were discussed.

Bletchley Park

-The paperwork has been completed and it has been decided the currently planned date will be used despite the timing during summer term.
-One minibus and possibly one people carrier will transport people there and back.
-The trip will be visiting the gift shop and packed lunches will be brought. Mr Wilson would love a packed lunch, unfortunately it seems like he will have to make his own.

Recycling at LANs

-The issue of grease stopping the pizza boxes from being recycled was brought up.
-More bins will be bought so recycling can be organized. Moltenfire will be in charge of this.
-”Are you in charge of buying bins?” “Yes, I have a collection.”

Gaming ideas

-Defcon to be tried out as a possible new game.
-Due to the awkward times for watching SC2, the revolutionary idea of Teacraft was created.
-An email will be sent out to gauge interest in a SC2 tournament, with the finals possibly at BFL.

New servers

-Goggins and jess will be replaced in the upcoming weeks, with the server companies to be decided on.
-Private GIT will be implemented for Compsoc members.
-The problems with backus cannot be diagnosed, P2P will be implemented at gaming to increase download speeds.

Facebook Group

-zed0 is to resurrect the facebook group and to look at implementing automatic updates from the UWCS website.

New consoles and their use

-One Kinect, Wiis, controllers and a new Rock Band drum pedal will be bought for gaming.
-Permission was granted for Warwick Game Design society to use our gaming equipment as long as Mike is present.

Music server upgrades

-MrWilson will be adding a number of features to the music server to improve LANs.

The resurrection of XING

-A popular idea was to start “brown bag” talks-a short talk each week introducing members to a new topic.

New Exec Handover

-The keys of all power have been passed over to the new exec.

Gaming

-agaeki has volunteered and been appointed the new gaming officer.
-New games to be got working on Gaming computers (SC2, Eve).
-We live on in hope that one day Steam will work.

Server administration

-Arora will have an software update and new case added in the immediate future.
-Two new servers will be bought to replace goggins and jess.

Gaming Equipment

-New consoles and gaming equipment will be bought for the Friday gaming sessions (Wiis, Kinects, controllers).

Social Trips and Media

-zed0 is to keep the Compsoc facebook updated.
-An exec handover meeting is planned.
-An end of term trip is planned, with suggestions including Lego Land, Thorpe Park and paintballing. There is a poll to be made on the website so members can vote for their preferred option.
-zed0 is to organize Bletchley Park trip.
